Top 2 Seeds China 1 and India Draw in Asian Nations Cup

The top two seeds China 1 and India played to a 2:2 draw to set the pace after 3 rounds of the Asian Nations Cup in Zao Zhuang, China. Tied for the lead are Iran and China 2 men. In the Women’s China 1 beat China 2 by 3:1 to grab solo lead of the round robin tournament. In an all-GM battle, Wang Hao beat Sasikiran and Ding Liren beat Negi to score for China. The Chinese dragon showed its power as China 1 crushed Kazakhstan 3.5-.5 while India kept pace by beating Singapore 3:1 in the second round of the Asian Nations Cup in Zao Zhuang, China. In the Women’s section, China 1 beat Indonesia 3.5-.5 while Iran won  2.5:1.5 against Mongolia to tie for the lead in match points. Winning for China were GMs Wang Hao, Wang Yue, Ding Liren. GM Rustam Khusnutdinov saved Kazakhstan from a shutout by holding GM Yu Yangyi to a draw. India kept pace on wins by GMs Parimarjan Negi and Gopal. 1st Fiji International Open Championship

Some 38 players, including four players from Australia and three players from New Zealand, competed in the 1st Fiji International Open Championships which were held in the Fijian capital city of Suva last week. Australian GM Darryl Johansen scored 9/9 to win the 22-player Open and New Zealand WFM Vivian Smith scored 9/9 to win the 16-player Women’s Championship. Other players included Australian IM George Xie (three GM norms), Oceania Zone President FM Brian Jones and New Zealand Chess Federation President IO Paul Spiller. The first six games have not produced any decisive result in the ongoing World Chess Championship match at Moscow. It is a mild disappointment. Having white is no advantage in such a high level match it seems. The remaining six games might see some better action than these six games which are in history books already.
